Graduation Day - a day of celebration, a day of trepidation; a day of reflecting on memories of days gone by, a day for looking forward; a day to say goodbye, a day to venture out into the world of new hello's. Whatever the day held for you, you were not alone. It was a special day for the Class of '87, allowing us ample opportunity to spend it together.

Senior breakfast
Special recognitions for American Field Service (AFS) and lifetime California Scholastic Federation (CFS) members were presented, along with words from Dr. Machi and Ms. Heinonen. But a senior gathering would not have been complete without entertainment. Who can forget, 'Rox-anne!', led by Bryan McBurney in the infamous leopard robe?!
Commencement ceremonies
At eight o'clock that evening, the graduates entered the park and took their seats as the commencement ceremony began. Senior class president, Tom Johnson, welcomed the crowd of family and friends. Nate Pile and Sheila Lotspeich gave their salutary and valdictory addresses, respectively. And the Healdsburg High School Class of 1987 were awarded their diplomas.
This time was cherished as we realized this was our last time together as the Class of '87. We'd grown up together (whether from grade school on or just in the last year) and the familiar rituals of classes and hallway gatherings were ending.
Promises to keep in touch echoed as the ceremony concluded. Lots of hugs and kisses of congratulations, and pride expressed in goals accomplished, were bestowed upon the graduates. Some classmates later boarded buses to partake in cruise on San Francisco Bay, some joined family and friends. However it was spent, it was a time of celebration.
But all took that next step - some knowing where it might lead, some allowing fate to decide for them. What would life hold in store? College, marriage, children, travel? Only time would tell.
